Celebrating the big 3-0 with my main man, Tim McGraw
June 2nd 2008 18:15
I should first start this post with a rewind... I am a HUGE Tim McGraw fan. Our local radio station, WQYK, was having a contest to win front row Tim tickets. Yes, I will refer to the main man as Tim because we are now on a first name basis - well in my world we are! My fellow Timonian, (yes, we have our own Timisims) Kim, called to tell me about the contest. I logged on to the radio station website to see what I needed to do. It was quite simple. I needed to make a pair of jeans in a WQYK/Tim McGraw theme, the contest was called Tim McDrawers. Off I went to the local craft stores and made my Tim masterpiece.
WQYK picked the top 10 pairs of jeans and mine made the cut. Then they were on their website for a week and the public voted on the best pair. 1st place won 2 front row tickets, 2nd place 2 second row tickets and so on until 5th place 2 5th row tickets. I WON! 2nd place anyways, but I was still SO excited!
Then I heard on the radio that the best tailgate party would win backstage passes! Oh yes, now I had to win that! I would get to meet Tim - priceless!!!!! I told the crew that was going to the concert with me my plan of action. It was insane. I made signs, a homemade flagpole, flags, we made up games, we wore matching WQYK outfits... we went above and beyond. Everyone thought I was just plum crazy. But this was TIM! There isn't much that I wouldn't do to score tickets and backstage passes! It was also my 30th birthday, and just a few days after Tim's birthday. So I decided to make him a birthday card and have everyone sign it who went to the concert in the hopes that I would be able to hand it to him.
The day of the concert came.... and if this is what being 30 is all about - I'M LOVIN IT!!!!! National Tim Day (and I believe it should be a national holiday) was a blast! We got to the venue at about 2:45 thinking that the gates were going to be opening at 3... didn't happen. So we finally cracked open a beer and made a few friends. When they finally opened up the gate we went to the VIP parking - HA! What a joke that parking was. No one was even there, there were rigs parked - and no, not Tim rigs... rig rigs... how was anyone going to find us there beside all of that mess??? We nixed the VIP parking and went off to find our new friends that we made while parked outside of the gate. FOUND THEM! Yeah, and that parking attendent thought he could park me wherever he wanted... nope, I have my own ideas buddy.
Then came time to set up camp. And I mean CAMP! Kim, Michelle, Linda and I had worked our butts off to have the best tailgate possible. I attempted to make a huge PVC flagpole and I made 2 big flags - one WQYK flag and one Tim flag. We had balloons everywhere, we were handing out beads as if it were Mardi Gras. We had games such as Twister, horseshoes and a couple homemade games that went over pretty well including the now forever famous "Give Tim Head" - don't ask... Whelp, the flagpole went together wonderfully at home... not so much when it came to the concert. I think I was just in such a hurry to get it up so that we didn't miss WQYK and their voting that I just threw it together... what a fiasco that turned out to be! We hired our new found friends to help us put it up - okay, that was actually very entertaining to watch, and they got the flag up... well, sorta. It was up in the air... halfway... kinda crooked... looked a little rednecky with all the string going from one direction to the other, the WQYK flag was all screwed up... but it WAS up! After a few beers it didn't even look that bad! Yep, we decided right there that we kinda liked these new friends of ours...
Next thing I know I am getting pulled into a drinking game of flip the cup. Can't say I have ever played it before, and it definiley showed. But before long I was flipping like a veteran. It really was the most fun I think I have ever had before a concert. So much fun in fact that we are going to be attending lots of shows this summer!
We won the contest for the best tailgate party. I was SUPER excited because I knew the prize was backstage passes - WHOOO HOOOO - yep, my dream was coming true. I was about to meet the MAN!!!!! Slap in the face time... we won... but no Tim. He doesn't do meet and greets.... AUGH!!!!! But we did get to meet Jason Aldean, and I have to say he is a very nice guy. I got my picture taken with him and an autograph before I sprinted away to see Tim.
I made a security guard take me to my seat and there he was - within arms reach. WOW! Damn. He is so freakin hot. I held up the big birthday card that I made for him and had a zillion people sign that day that we met. He bent down and took it from me, kinda hanging out for a moment waiting for me to say something. But, I didn't. Nope, I froze. I stood there like an idiot. Speechless. Yes, for the first time in my life. He sat the card up on stage for all to see. I ended up with an autograph from him, a "Happy Birthday" said to me, a few hand grabs, and quite a few looks and smiles at me - so all in all a GREAT time.
I came home that night - at about three and see two dozen roses on my kitchen counter. My inlaws sent them to me for mother's day thanking me for their grandchildren. WOW! I haven't received flowers from someone in such a long time. Then I head to the shower and YUCK... I had dirt in places that girls just shouldn't be dirty.
The next morning I wake up to a present that was sent to me from my brother. A big, black Coach purse. He said he wanted to get me something nice for the big 30th birthday. Man, I LOVE MY BROTHER!!!!!!
So all in all... GREAT concert, GREAT tailgating, love the flowers and really love the purse - I think 30 is looking damn good. Besides, why should I be upset turning 30 - that's when women hit their prime!!!!!!!!!! My friends said they will also never doubt me and my crazy shenanigans ever again. Not only did I get them 2nd row seats but also backstage passes! What a night to remember.....
