Brooks and Dunn - never done!

July 9th 2008 15:25

Brooks and Dunn have been in the spotlight since they released their first single in 1991 with "Brand New Man". They have won over 43 awards from "Entertainer of the Year" to "Vocal Duo of the Year". They are the duo to catch in the eyes of other country duo teams. Are Big and Rich the next Brooks and Dunn? That's like asking if Kenny Chesney is the next George Strait.
Brooks and Dunn

Brooks and Dunn use to be big NASCAR fans. They were friends with the late Earnhardt (may he rest in peace). Since then they have boycotted NASCAR after many drivers have said that they want to get away from country music and try to be "hipper". Dunn says "I'm over it. I'm through with it until Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets out and clogs at the end of Daytona, square dances or something. Maybe they can all get together and line dance. I'm boycotting. I don't care." Now these boys take country music and all that it stands for very seriously. That is one reason why they are truly loved by their fans.

Their music has been used in many political campaigns as well. They are republican and supported President Bush in his re-election. I wonder what they think of their choice now?

I have searched and searched for new things that I might not know about this famous duo. But, it isn't easy information to find. They have done a wonderful job keeping their private life private. You don't read about them in tabloids - no one is having an affair with their 15 year old nanny. To be in the industry as long as they have, and to be such respected artists by their fans and their peers, speaks volumes.

Brooks and Dunn

I am heading to my first Brooks and Dunn concert on the 25th. I am anxious to see why they have been named "Entertainer of the Year"... are they as entertaining as Kenny? I am ready to find out. There is no doubt that these two will go down in history. There singing is very distinct and they have amazing songwriting ability.

I'll give you more of MY opinion when I see them on the 25th!

Nashville Star, are you watching?

June 18th 2008 14:57
Who’s watching Nashville Star? If your not, I advise that you tune in! It is the American Idol of country music without all the hoopla! There definitely is some real talent on there, and the country fans need to pay attention!
Billy Ray, John Rich, Jewel
The Host and Judges of Nashville Star

This last week when America voted, the best person in the competition was in the bottom two. I really couldn’t believe my eyes. Melissa is a 32 year old, working mother of five, yes five, children. She isn’t your typical country music star. Not a Carrie Underwood look-a- like, but the voice is more than a little amazing. It will blow you away. She has a great stage presence and there isn’t any possible way that she should have been in the bottom two other than the fact that America has lost its freaking mind, or that America is discriminating on this beautiful, full sized woman!

Let’s get to the first groups eliminated. Charley was eliminated first, as the judge’s choice on who was to go. I really couldn’t have agreed with them more. My heart went out to him because of the loss of his father due to the horrible disease of cancer, but Charley picked the WRONG song and completely over sang it. Now, I have to admit that the song he chose was one that is sacred to me because it is a Tim McGraw song, and if you have read any of my blogs than you know what the Tim man means to me. But listening to Charley sing “I Like It, I Love It” was completely painful and I was praying that Tim wasn’t tuning in. Charley tried a little too hard to get his country twang on. It was just all over the place. I was embarrassed for the good ole boy from Utah. No doubt the man can sing, he just needs to not try so hard.

The other group that was eliminated via America’s vote was a group called Third Town. WOW. That is all I can say about this group, and it isn’t wow in a positive manner. They can sing, yes they can… if you like the kind of singing that you hear on cruise ships. Third Town sang “Elvira” and although it was an okay showcase of singing talent, it was too fake and the old time song really doesn’t fit their look. It was a little disturbing. Not to mention that “Little Tony” needs a new do!

I want to give you my take on who’s left the competition.
Alyson - a pretty face with a good voice, although she seems to try a little too hard. You can take a girl out of a pageant, but I guess you can never take the pageant out of the girl!
Alyson
Alyson

Ashlee – now this girl is one to contend for the top spot! Her voice is folk country, and it does resemble that of Jewel’s. She is one of my favorites. I definitely think a woman will win the competition!

Coffey – yes, pronounced like Coffee. This man has my heart as he is a single father… HOWEVER, I think he is in the wrong genre. Now before you start yelling at me, it has absolutely nothing to do with his skin tone. I think he is more like a John Mayer. Not a country music star. I don’t see him sticking around long.
Coffey

Gabe – now this proves that I don’t see the skin color when recognizing talent. This boy is at the top of the class when it comes to the men. My only thing is that if he wants to win this he needs to step out of his comfort zone and really perform. He definitely has the voice to pull it off!

Justin – remember how I said that Taylor Swift is more than just a pretty face? Not so much with this guy. He is a hottie, but the voice is not good enough to be on this show. As John Rich said “I think this guy snuck in the back door”… although I believe that to be true, isn’t John Rich one of the judges that picked him Top 12?????

Laura and Sophie – these girls have some pipes, but I think they have a lot of maturing to do and although I do think they will go far into the competition, I don’t see them winning. I think they have a SHeDAISY vibe and could be country music stars down the road with the right mentoring.
Laura and Sophie

Pearl Heart – hmmmm… kind of the Laura and Sophie vibe here. They are good, but the sister who is the lead singer needs to learn how to move on stage without looking like a puppet. I don’t believe they are going to be the Top Dog either.
Pearl Heart

Shawn – I don’t know what it is about her that the judges like. I think she is the worst girl on the show. Her voice is a little strange and her stage presence isn’t there either. They seem to like her voice. Not a contender!

Tommy – now I am a military brat, and my brother is also military, so this boy has my complete support – as a soldier. As a singer, he’s okay. A little cruise like, and his eyes get a little crazy when he performs.

That’s it – that’s the contenders! It’s time, country music fans, to start watching and start voting. This is the music we love, let’s make sure whoever wins this competition is the one who deserves it. I don’t know about you, but I would find it refreshing for someone like Melissa to win! She represents the dreams of the average woman – and I would love for those dreams to come true!

Taylor Swift just may be the hottest female to hit country music in years! Why? Because she is the total package. Swift is young, beautiful, and has more talent in her index finger than most people have in their whole body! Taylor is more than just a pretty face and a beautiful voice. She is sweet as sugar and a great role model for little girls everywhere. And let’s face it – with girls like Brittany Spears and Lindsey Lohan we need good role models!

Taylor Swift, in her 18 years of life, has always given her fans more than just a show – mixing humor, songs she has written, and even a few surprises in between. She just won the ACM for top new female vocalist – not a surprise at all to most country music fans. Taylor's music is so fresh and fun that you can’t help but be drawn to her.
I have listened to countless interviews with her and her attitude is just plain great. She says it like it is and leaves you wanting more. Write this girl down folks, because she is going to be here for a long time. Taylor is the next Reba or Dolly. Our grandchildren will be listening to her and we will say “Remember when?”
Taylor Swift

Her first big hit was titled “Tim McGraw”, and quite frankly, that was enough to make me want to listen. The songs Swift writes are from events that have happened in her life such as “Tim McGraw”. She was about to move away from a boyfriend and she knew their love wouldn’t last through the move, so she wanted to write a song that would make him think of her. Taylor wrote “Teardrops on my guitar” after she was tired of being a boy’s "go to" girl for advice on his relationships when she wanted to be more than friends. This is what makes Taylor stand out from all the other country music singers. We all love country music because we can see ourselves in the songs. And these songs are real. Not something that some writer decided to write about and Taylor decided to sing. Each song on her album she either wrote or co-wrote. When you listen to her music you are getting more than a pretty face and beautiful voice – you are getting a look inside a young girl’s heart. It feels good to put yourself there and either understand what she is going through or reminisce about those times in your own life.
I am happy to let my children listen to Taylor, and feel blessed that she has decided to share her gift with us. If you are not a Taylor Swift fan you are missing out. Listen to her and love her… there isn’t a reason in the world not to!

The Skinny on Kenny

June 3rd 2008 13:20
Where do I even begin on Kenny Chesney... he grew up in a small town called Luttrell in Tennessee. Kenny was born on March 26, 1968. A fun fact that you may not know is that Kenny isn't all muscle with no brain - he graduated college with a degree in Advertising. He also likes to hide the fact that his middle name is Arnold. Actually. in my opinion, Arnold fits him better than Kenny.

Kenny Chesney

Now, do not get me wrong, I am a HUGE Kenny fan... but REALLY? I believe Kenny Chesney is proof that if you can sing and play a guitar it makes you sexy. If I were to see Kenny Chesney walking down the street, he wouldn't exactly turn my head. But give the man a guitar, a microphone and some screaming fans and he is suddenly a lot more appealing. Kenny was deemed "Country's Hottest Bachelor" by Country Weekly. He has sold more concert tickets than any other band or act in the last 3 years! And I must say that his attitude makes him a lot sexier than the reflection that he sees in the mirror. He really tries to have fun in his life and even scandals don't take Kenny off his game. Who can forget his four month marriage to actress Renee Zellweger? When the annulment papers came in Zellweger had cited fraud as the reason, which lead to a huge 'Kenny must be gay' scandal. Well folks, he's not. They listed fraud because it was the easiest reason with the broadest meanings. Kenny has said that the only fraud was him not really knowing who he was and what marriage was all about. It is something that he wants to try again one day, and he even sees kids in his future... but right now it is all about the music

Country Music Lovers

June 2nd 2008 14:51
The first tape I ever bought was Dolly Parton's. I still remember the song "Coat of many colors". She is classic and legendary. Even if you don't love country you know Dolly Parton. My love of country music comes from growing up in the Appalachian Mountains in West 'by God' Virginia. I remember going for long car rides and listening to old country by John Denver, Ray Stevens and of course the great Hank.
I worked at a country radio station while I was in high school. Definitley the best job a person can ever have. It just made my love of country music grow and grow. I have to say that I am a tad bit obsessed with Tim McGraw. He is a one in a million man. I had the pleasure of sitting 2nd row at his concert here in Tampa last month. He puts on a heck of a show and definitley shows love to his fans.
I am also a fan of Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, and I have to say BRAD PAISLEY! He is a WV homeboy who makes us very proud. I can't even begin to list all the people and bands that make country music great, but I did want to start a blog with need to know information and share my experiences at various summer venues with some of the top dogs of country music
